Welcome to Nagigi Village

Bula “Hello”

It is all about passion and purpose, find your passion and know your purpose!

The Nagigi Village, Savusavu, is located on the island of Vanua Levu, the second largest island of Fiji. A magical place to visit with some of the friendliest people, a communal living community with a chief and 4 clans. They place great importance on the family unit, the village and their land. Most of the village income is derived from the ocean and the land’s natural resources.

In the past only one cruise ship arrived every three months, in 2019 thirteen cruise ships are expected to anchor at Savusavu bay. Increased accessibility with regular daily flights and regular ferry service from the main island, Vanua Levu island is quickly becoming a popular tourist destination. Though this growth brings jobs for the local natives, history has shown that at times they lose some of their culture/traditions as they assimilate with the tourist business.

Most Villages are undeveloped and certainly not setup to take advantage of the growing tourism business which is currently handled mainly by the resorts and private companies. The Nagigi Village Community Development Project will include a renovated community hall, a playground for the children, an administrative office, village kitchen/restaurant, restrooms, rental shop for water activities, dining and entertainment deck, all facilities will be wheelchair accessible.

The project’s focus is to generate income for the village while encouraging them to nurture their culture and traditions. The kitchen will offer traditional foods, the deck space will allow them to perform their traditional dances and entertainment for tourists. The renovated community hall will allow them, amongst other things to show their talents and sell their individual crafts. The businesses will be operated by the village locals for the benefit of the Nagigi Village community. The Project will establish the Nagigi Village as a true cultural tourist destination.

The Nagigi Village Community Project needs your support in raising the necessary funds to achieve their goals and vision. Click the donate button to contribute to this amazing project to help the villagers to empower themselves. All contributions, minus banking transaction fees, go directly to the Nagigi Village Community Development Project. Your contribution as a business or individual will be recognized in the contributor’s tab unless you choose to remain anonymous. Thank you to everyone who has provided support so far.

The Nagigi Village together with the EzaQua Xperience Project, a multi purpose watercraft, presents the opportunity for people with limited abilities to enjoy and participate in water activities including snorkeling with the EzaQua Watercraft. Fijian Culture

The culture of Fiji, including language, has created a unique communal and national identity. The inhabitants of modern Fiji are of indigenous Fijian background, as well as of Indian, Chinese and European ancestry. Indigenous culture has shaped the nation and is an active and living part of everyday life for the majority of the happy folk that live here.

Fijian Traditional Food

Fijian food has traditionally been very healthy. Fijians prefer a more tuber and coconut based diet. High caloric foods are good for hard-working villagers who need extra calories while working on their farms.
Fiji is a multicultural country and is home to people of various races. In most Fijian homes, food of other cultures is prepared on a regular basis such as Indian curries and Chinese dishes. Fiji is also famous for its seafood.

Savusavu, Fiji Cruise Port

Tucked within the Savusavu Bay in the Province of Cakaudrove is the cruise port of Savusavu, Fiji. Known as Fiji’s “hidden paradise,” this town of around 3,400 residents is on the southern coast of Figi’s northern Vanua Levu Island, across the harbor from Nawi Island. Savusavu was originally established as a trade center for wood and seafood, and is still has a busy copra mill (which is used to harvest the dried meat or kernels of coconuts). Thanks to a growing number of resorts, tourism has been increasing; that it’s an excelling place for diving, snorkeling, and yachting has also helped entice vacationers. Those who want an adventure might consider a trek through the rainforest or take a pearl farm tour, while those who want to relax will find plenty of spas, beaches, and delectable restaurants. Listed below are a handful of our favorite experiences when cruising to Savusavu, Fiji:
  • Diving is one of the most popular pastimes here, with a number of day tours available to take you to the undersea wonders of Fiji (even if you’ve never gone diving before). A favorite is the shark diving expeditions, where you can get fairly close to these incredible creatures.
  • The Nakawaga Waterfall is a hidden gem within the hidden paradise. Either go on your own or take a guide, and prepare to enjoy a refreshing “shower” after your walk. There’s a nearby village where you can get handcrafted souvenirs afterward.
  • Plant lovers will want to visit the Flora Tropical Gardens near the bay. There are five acres containing several hundred species of plants from around the world, including rare and endangered varieties. Thanks to the flowers and fruit growing here, native birds are also in abundance. There are plenty of places to sit when you need a break or want to just gaze at nature’s bounty.
  • Open from Monday through Saturday, the Savusavu Farmers Market is the best place in town for fresh produce, seafood, and spices. Try some fruit you’ve never had before, then visit the crafts stalls for handmade gifts to take home.
